About Les Arcs

Situated between Mont Blanc and Vanoise, Les Arcs - Bourg St Maurice, is a wonderfully modern resort with inspiring skiing. Les Arcs comprises a number of small village resorts, all linked by a network of pistes and lifts allowing you to experience the area at your own pace and enjoy the varied terrain and scenery the 4 areas are - Les Arcs 1600, Les Arcs 1800, Les Arcs 1950 and Les Arcs 2000 - with Les Arcs 1800 being the main hub. Each of the villages offer many bars, cafes and restaurants - ideal after a long days skiing if you cannot be bothered to cook! However, there are also many supermarkets and shops nearby with all the essentials you'll need for a self-catered holiday.

 

The easiest access to Les Arcs is via Eurostar to Bourg St Maurice, from where it is only a 20 minute journey up to the resort via the funicular railway or taxi. Alternatively, there are many airlines offering flights into Chambery, Geneva and Lyon airports, all around 2 to 2.5 hours drive away.

 

Les Arcs not only offers a wide range of winter and summer activities, but has everything on tap to make your stay enjoyable, easy and safe:- cash points; chemist; doctor; post office; bowling alley and cinema. It also has a huge variety of shops, bars and restaurants to suit everyone's needs - old or young. Both on the slopes and in the village centres of Arc 1800, numerous restaurants are accessible by foot or by ski lift, inviting you to experience mouth-watering tastes and a variety of different cooking traditions. At the bottom of the slopes and the foot of the residences is a friendly area where children and parents can get together to enjoy the toboggan run in safety.

Les Arcs in Winter

Undoubtedly one of the best linked ski resorts in France, Les Arcs forms part of the Paradis ski area, one of the largest ski domains in the world. Linked to La Plagne by the Vanoise Express - a huge double decker cable car - the area has over 425km of groomed runs, offering terrain for every level of rider. One of the best aspects of Les Arcs is the ski in, ski out factor - click your skis on at the door and away you go. Les Arcs is an ideal destination for groups or families wanting ski to the door accommodation for a mixture of abilities! It boasts an amazing snow record and has excellent skiing for all abilities. The variety of skiing is huge from steep blacks to wide open cruising runs. Since December 2003 the Paradiski cable-car opened, linking Les Arcs with La Plagne to form one of the largest ski areas in the world (over 425km of piste skiing!). Les Arcs is made up of four villages - Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950 and Arc 2000. Arc 1800 is the largest village with a lively atmosphere and excellent access to skiing. Throughout the winter, there are free regular shuttle services between the resorts of Les Arcs. Besides skiing, snowboarding and telemark, the Paradiski is also made up of a group of high altitude and village resorts where you can practice the bobsled  - the only Olympic luge in France, speed flying, ice-climbing and dog sledding... the Paradiski area provides an impressive array of activities which are just great to share between friends and family! With 70% of the ski area located above 2000m altitude and the network of artificial snow making machines being amongst the most modern in the world, Paradiski ensures optimal snow conditions throughout the length of the winter season.


Les Arcs in Summer

In summer, there is so much to do around Les Arcs such as climbing, golf, hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, paragliding, sightseeing, sports and leisure and water sports. At an altitude of 1800 metres, this resort is sure to measure up to all of your desires. Whilst facing Mont Blanc, you can take part in a number of summer activities.

 

Climbing, Hiking and Mountaineering

Climbing in the region is taking off and there is a new climbing wall in Arc 1800 and you can do courses plus and Via Ferrata. The valley is beautiful and the hiking season can start as early as April in Les Arcs. There are some recommend walks to do: Refuge Robert Blanc - Robert Blanc refuge is located in a stony area in the high mountains. It is accessible to all and boasts a unique panorama over the Vanoise national park and the Oisans region. Vanoise National Park - home to summits that rise above 3,000 metres. It offers more than 500 kilometres of marked routes that are sure to be more than enough to satisfy your desires. Accompanied by qualified mountain guides climb up to the mountain tops and discover neves and glaciers and set off to find lands that you never before imagined. Les Cinq Lacs - Lacs de la Forclaz. You will need lightweight boots and shorts, waterproofs, sunglasses, plus skin and lip protection. Always have a drink at hand as well. Walks are well sign posted. In the valley you can do one day walks from the cable car stations and further afield two day plus walks in surrounding French areas, Italy and Switzerland.

 

Golf

Golf in the Alps is popular with holiday makers who want to take in the mountain air while enjoying a leisurely round of 9-18 holes. The 18 hole golf course at Les Arc 1800 (5560m/ 6080 yards - Par 70) is a 60-hectare course with gentle slopes facing Mont Blanc and the valley of Isere. The course is rich in downhill runs making ideal for a short game. Our Chantel apartments are right on the golf course in the summer. Open averagely 28 Jun - 03 Aug.

 

Mountain Biking

Boasting some of the best downhill mountain biking sites in Europe, Les Arcs and La Plagne offer and endless amount of challenging terrain set in breathtaking surroundings - because of the technically demanding level of the trails and the steep downhill plummets, intermediate to advanced riders will be especially suited to the resort. Arc 1600 is home to a permanent downhill trail, which at 3270m in length and with a vertical drop of 547m, is a run for experts only with sharp banked turns, jumps and North Shore sections. For those who aren't as addicted to the adrenaline, Les Arcs has trails to suit all level of rider including more scenic rambles and longer cross-country circuits. Also new to Bourg St Maurice is the Trial Park, with two more practice parks at Arcs 1800 and Arcs 2000. There are another two North Shore routes (one beginner, one expert) situated in Arc 1600, a 4-cross, a slope style and a practice park. If that's not enough for you, put your bike on the Vanoise Express and head over to La Plagne to experience a whole new resort.

 

Parapenting

Parapenting is a very popular sport in Les Arcs due to the high mountains and great winds.

 

Water Sports

You can Canyon, Hydrospeed, Kayak and raft in Les Arcs. Early in the summer, in May and June, the rivers are usually high with snow melt from the mountains. During July, August and September the water levels are usually lower and the temperature warmer.


Getting to Les Arcs

There are many ways to travel to Les Arcs - one of the simplest is by rail. Les Arcs lies just above Bourg St Maurice which has an international railway station linking directly with all major European stations (only 6 hours direct from London). From Bourg you can hop on a bus, take the funicular or jump in a taxi to take you up to Les Arcs.

By train it is a very simple journey to Les Arcs since Bourg St Maurice (only a short distance up to Les Arcs) is one of the main French SNCF and TGV (high speed French rail network) stations. Getting from Bourg St Maurice to Les Arcs 1800

By Funicular Train

The Arc-en-Ciel funicular train, which leaves from just behind the SNCF railway station, takes you to Arc 1600 in just 7 minutes. Use of this service is included in all ski passes (from funicular train station ticket office).

 

By Taxi

You can hop in a taxi from outside the station - the cost will be around &eur;60.

 

Getting Around Les Arcs 1800

By Bus

Throughout the winter, there are free regular shuttle services between the resorts of Les Arcs (1650, 1800, 1950, 2000) and between the villages of Arc 1800 so you can hop on from outside the residences free at any time.

Les Arcs Ski Passes

All ski passes are available from the resort sales points. There are two main ski pass types: Les Arcs and Paradiski. It is also possible to buy a day or half day ski pass in each area (but be warned this does not mean half the price of a full day!) Children under 6 and seniors over 71 are free - proof of age is needed for free passes. Carte Neige (piste rescue insurance) is available in resort for around €3 per person per day (there is no reduction for children). You can buy passes from 1 to 15 days (only 6 to 8 days for Decouverte) and there are 4 main age categories. Adult (14-64 yrs), Child (6-13 yrs), Child (under 6 years) and Senior (65-71 yrs). There are other family pack options & pedestrian passes.

 

Les Arcs Ski Pass: the Les Arcs ski pass is valid for the ski-lifts of the Les Arcs only (Les Arcs - Peisey/ Vallandry - Villaroger).

 

Paradiski Ski Pass: the Paradiski pass is valid for the ski-lifts of the whole area Les Arcs and La Plagne. If your full area pass covers 5 days or more then you are entitled to spend one of those days skiing in either Val D'Isere / Tignes or the 3 Valleys.

 

Paradiski Decouverte Ski Pass: The pass is available for 6 to 8 days, gives access to Les Arcs and allows you to ski one day of your choice in the La Plagne ski area.
