La Tania - The ResortBuilt in 1992 for the athletes of the Albertville Olympics, La Tania has grown into a delightful resort with none of the pretentiousness of Courchevel or the boisterousness of Meribel. It is an affordable base from which to explore the three valleys. The resort is compact and concentrated in one area with most of the chalets nestling in the trees between the two main runs home. Despite only being at 1350m altitude, the trees provide excellent protection for the north facing Folyeres blue run and it is normally cold enough for the snow cannons to keep snow on the ground well into April. It should always be possible to ski home. On The Mountain: There is quick access to all areas of the 3 valleys, as it only takes two lifts to reach the slopes of either Courchevel or Meribel. Don't dismiss the La Tania sector though - it is home to some long red and blue pistes, some testing moguls and relatively untracked off-piste. The village is very family friendly with plenty of English speaking instructors. Beginners normally head towards Courchevel 1850 to practise on the gentle wide pistes, whilst intermediates should spend a day cruising the blues and reds of 1650. On The Town: Most of the apres ski activities are centred around the ‘Ski Lodge', which caters for everything from football to good pub food to live music depending on the time of day. As accommodation is mainly chalets there is not a massive demand for restaurants, although the food is good in the few that are there. Courchevel and Meribel are both within easy reach if you are after a big night out! If you are a non-skier you will probably find La Tania a bit limiting. Getting Here: By plane: Lyon-St Exupéry (190 km), Geneva-Cointrin (130 km), Chambéry-Aix-les-Bains (90 km) airports. By road: Motorway A43 then A430 and RN90 until Moûtiers and then follow signs to La Tania. By train: Moutiers railway station.
